Jerusalem. Part 2 (1902) is the final part of Selma Lagerlöf's novel, which depicts a group of Swedish emigrants from Dalarna who seek spiritual enlightenment in the Holy Land. In this part we follow their lives in Jerusalem, their encounters with new cultures and the trials they face in their search for faith and community.
After arriving in Jerusalem, the Swedish emigrants join an American colony that carries out charitable work for the city's inhabitants. They live and work together, inspired by their faith and conviction that they are called to live according to the example of Jesus. The novel explores their inner conflicts, relationships and the spiritual journey they undergo in a strange and challenging environment. Lagerlöf based the work on real events from 1896, when a group of people from Nås in Dalarna actually traveled to Jerusalem.
