Mopedrenovering - Vi kör efter mantrat: "We suck less"

Mopedrenovering.se has been a customer of Abicart since 2013. What started as a hobby grew quickly and today they are one of the largest moped shops in Europe.
In December 2013, they started up their webshop in Lasse's 16 m2 garage with 1,000 items in stock, as an important part of the business was to provide a warehouse for their customers to avoid the frustration of split deliveries. Today, they are growing out of their existing 1,400 m2 warehouse with 12 full-time employees and as many hourly workers and they send out around 60,000 - 70,000 parcels per year.
Janne Östling of Moped Renovation shares his story:
The idea of Mopedrenovering (moped renovation) was raised by moped enthusiast Lasse
The idea for Mopedrenovering (Moped Renovation) came about when moped enthusiast Lasse got tired of the fact that there was no supplier in Sweden that offered warehousing and consolidated delivery, which contributed to split and lengthy deliveries. Which was frustrating as you had to wait with your repair until all the parts had arrived. This, coupled with the fact that he very easily sold off a batch of stickers he had left over on Tradera, meant that he and his friend Owe began to discuss and become interested in running an online shop as a leisure activity. To start up their business they contacted their friend Janne who worked in IT and together they started up mopedrenovering.se.The hobby business grew quickly, and already 1.5 years later they were busy, all evenings and weekends were spent to keep up with all the orders that came in. As they grew, they quickly had to move to a larger premises of 1000 m2 and at the same time they also brought in their 4th partner, Jonas. From starting a business just to have a fun thing to do in their spare time, they have grown from year to year.
What do you sell in your shop?
We are one of the largest moped shops in Europe and we definitely have the largest range. Offering our customers a wide range and items in stock has been an important part of our business. We sell spare parts for various types of mopeds and currently we have around 13-14,000 items. Our range in vintage mopeds is the largest but we also have a lot of parts and accessories for vintage motorcycles and Modern Eu mopeds. The latter category will be bigger in the future, where we have plans to expand in the near future.We sell products to all of Europe and we have opened up after requests from customers for export to the USA, Canada, New Zealand and Australia. It is no problem to send and have customers abroad via the Abicart platform.
You only sell your products on the web, have you ever considered setting up a physical store in addition?
We had a physical store in the beginning but we quickly closed it down because it was very unprofitable. The target market for vintage mopeds is quite small and spread out all over Sweden so staffing and running a physical shop was unsustainable for our business.
Why did you choose Abicart as your e-commerce platform?
When we were setting up our online shop, I did a thorough market research and we ended up using Abicart as our platform. You got good ratings from many people and you were also very cheap in price/performance. That combined with the fact that you had great integrations that allow you to automate a lot made you an easy choice. It was also very positive that it was free to get started, so we had time to post all our articles and only paid when we went live. Since then, we've just kept on going. We would definitely recommend Abicart as a platform, we've done it many times. Your Support is great these days, there are good people working there and they are quick to respond. I like your new support feature where you have everything together on your profile. Whenever I hear someone talking about web shops I say we are at Abicart and we are very happy, keep it up.
What is the best thing about running your own business and webshop?
I think the best thing about being your own is the freedom, you do what you want and you can try many new things. That combined with the fact that I live 5 minutes from here and that I get to work on something that is fun. We didn't start up our business to make money, we did it because we thought it was fun. Since then, things have gone well over the years and the business has grown more than we thought it would which has helped us make money from it. That's the side effect of it all, with it makes it all even more fun of course and it creates a drive to do it even better.
Which of our subscriptions do you use and why?
We have had your PRO subscription since the beginning. The reason for this is that we have always wanted to fully automate everything as much as possible and we want to avoid manual methods. In order to make these connections we have needed to have the PRO subscription. Considering everything you offer and deliver for what we pay, we think it is extremely good. You are also good at picking integrations in many payment methods and the like.
