How do I reassign my domain to the store?

Buying a new domain
Buy a domain from a hosting/domain provider, for example:

Webb.se
Loopia.se
One.com

(Abicart or Textalk do not currently sell domains.)

If you buy a new domain just for your shop and your email, you won't need any web space.
Your webshop is located on Abicart/Textalk's servers and it is included in the shop's subscription.
So you only need to buy a domain name.

In order to activate your own domain, your Abicart subscription needs to be active and your store needs to be visible. Read more about it here

Replace and add a domain to the store

Settings with the domain provider/web hosting company where you purchased your domain

If you have any questions regarding any of these settings, please contact the support where you purchased your domain. Unfortunately, we are unable to provide support in other systems.

Log in to your domain provider/web host.
Go to the DNS management page. The location and name of this page varies depending on your provider, but is usually found under "Domain Management" or "Advanced Settings".

You can point the domain in two ways: CNAME- or A-record (A-pager).

CNAME
For "CNAME-host or alias" enter your domain. At "CNAME destination" enter the following address:

shop.abicart.se

A-record
For A-record (or A-pekers) enter the IP address: 192.121.104.141
Save the changes. It may take a few hours for the changes to take effect.

Please remember to remark the domain both with and without www.

For example www.abicart.se and abicart.se (without www).

If an AAAA (IPv6) pointer exists for the domain names, these should be removed as services like Let's Encrypt will not work with this active.

There must only be one pointer to our server. All other pointers must be removed.

Settings in Abicart admin

Go to Settings -> Domains and SEO -> tab "Domains".

Enter the domain and then click "Add".

If you have redesignated the domain both with and without www, you will also enter the second domain below the first. For example, www.abicart.se and abicart.se.

URL settings

Domain name
Select the domain from the list.

Language prefix (only if you have multiple languages in the store)
Example /en/ for English, /dk/ for Danish, etc.

Suffix
If you want a file extension on the addresses in the store, you can enter it here, for example html, php etc. This is only aesthetic and has no technical meaning. The most common is to leave this field blank.

Folder structure
You can control how the addresses (URLs) of the pages look like. If you check "Include the article groups in the URLs of the articles", the categories will appear in the links of the pages. For example: /clothes/women/pants/. This is good from an SEO point of view so you should have this box ticked.

Article folder
Optional field if you want an extra word in the address of article pages. If you want to have as short links as possible, you should leave this field empty.

Folder for own pages
Optional field if you want an extra word in the address of your own pages. If you want the shortest possible links, leave this field empty.

Home page
Optional field if you want an extra word in the address of the home page. If you want the shortest possible links, leave this field blank.

Click the save button

It will now take a few minutes for the domain to start working. It will then take a few hours before all filenames are generated correctly. All pages will work immediately but incorrect filenames may appear for the first 24 hours. Just wait and everything will eventually be correct.

If you get the following error message when trying to add the domain:

The domain name [domain] is not correctly re-designated. It should be a CNAME pointer to shop.abicart.se (or an A pointer to 192.121.104.141 for the domain without www). Contact your domain provider for help.

In this case, the repointing has not been done yet or the domain is not correctly repointed. In that case, you should wait an hour or two and try later or contact your domain provider's support and ask them to help you point the domain correctly.

How do I create email addresses for my domain?

Email accounts are managed by your domain provider. Contact the company where you purchased the domain and they will help you create email addresses.
