What is Piwik Pro?

Piwik Pro is a tool used to analyze traffic on websites and mobile applications. It has a simple and intuitive dashboard with many features. It is a commercial development of the open source project Matomo, and has some similarities.

What is it used for? / What are its functions?

For e-newspapers, Piwik Pro can easily measure general performance (number of users, visits, etc.) and by configuring custom dimensions, you can get detailed insight into which pages and articles are most read, which ads are most clicked, and many other metrics.

Piwik Pro is free for small websites, but can get expensive on high-traffic websites.

Technical details

To measure Prenly e-papers with Piwik Pro, we use our middleware Prenlytics. We do not install Piwik Pro's javascript or SDK in our apps. Instead we collect data from the applications with our own trackers, and from our middleware we reformat and forward all data to Piwik Pro.

How is the statistic function implemented? - What actions are needed from the customer?

The customer has to sign an agreement with Piwik Pro and set up a site in Piwik Pro
The customer has to provide us with Piwik Pro server address and site id (so we know where to send the data)
The customer has to define all custom dimensions in Piwik Pro, numbered exactly as indicated on our wiki page for Matomo
Optional: The customer shares an account to us for verification of the data (alternatively the customer will verify themselves)
